Interim studies serve as powerful tools in the Oklahoma Legislature. They help lawmakers take a closer look at key issues, gather data and engage with stakeholders across the state. Most importantly, they shine a light on topics that directly impact the lives of everyday Oklahomans.
I’m proud to share that two of the interim studies I requested have been approved for 2025. My first study is Barriers to Oklahoma Business Innovation, and my second study is focused on Workforce Needs for Oklahoma’s Future.
These studies aren’t just titles—they reflect priorities I’ve pursued throughout my time in the House. Since being elected in 2018, I’ve focused on creating opportunities here at home so that our kids don’t feel they have to leave Oklahoma to build a future. Whether it’s Dallas, Denver, or beyond, too many young Oklahomans are seeking careers elsewhere, not because they want to, but because they feel they have to.
That’s something we can and must change. But change doesn’t happen by chance. It takes vision and a plan.
For Oklahoma to thrive over the long term, we must invest in the fundamentals: strong communities, forward-looking workforce development and policies that remove obstacles to innovation. We must ensure our education system, training programs and business environment align with the needs of the future economy, not just today’s.
As the Oversight Chair of Commerce and Economic Development in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, I take this responsibility seriously. These approved studies will help us identify real-world solutions, informed by experts, industry leaders, educators and Oklahomans from all walks of life.
Our goal is simple but essential: to make Oklahoma a place where families can grow, businesses can thrive and future generations can build lasting success.
This isn’t just about policy. It’s about people. It’s about making sure the next chapter of Oklahoma’s story is written by Oklahomans right here in our hometowns, not across state lines.
We are building on the strong foundation of Oklahoma’s values—faith, hard work, family, and freedom—while investing in our children, supporting families, and strengthening the communities we call home.
Together, we are forging a future with purpose. Together, we are building Oklahoma strong, one family, one community and one vision at a time.
Rep. Brian Hill, a Republican, represents House District 47 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. His district includes portions of Mustang and Oklahoma City. He serves as chair of the House Commerce & Economic Development Oversight Committee.
