Since 2018, Oklahoma has made bold and strategic investments in infrastructure across the Mustang area and House District 47, totaling more than $260 million in capital projects through the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA), Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) and local partnerships. These improvements are not only transforming roads and interchanges but also driving economic growth and quality of life across the region.
One of the most significant achievements has been the completion of the Southwest John Kilpatrick Turnpike extension, a project that connected I-40 near Mustang to SH-152 (Airport Road). This intersection has enhanced access and traffic flow for daily commuters and commercial traffic alike. This multi-phase effort included major interchange projects at Morgan Road ($28.5M), SH-152 ($48.5M), and I-40 ($45.7M), all just in 2018.
Additionally, nearby interchanges at SW 29th Street ($31.4M) and bridge rehabilitation over the North Canadian River ($55M) have supported regional connectivity. OTA also implemented critical upgrades such as tolling infrastructure, fiber optic broadband redundancy and road widening efforts along Sara Road, SW 15th, SW 29th, Morgan, County Line and Council Roads.
Looking ahead, both the widening of Sara Road between SH-152 and SW 29th ($19.4M) and the upcoming full interchange at SW 15th Street ($22M) will improve accessibility and traffic flow even further by 2026.
ODOT has also played a key role in advancing local infrastructure, including recent upgrades to SH-152 between Union City and Mustang, which total more than $41 million. These projects added shoulders, turn lanes, sidewalks, and reconstructed pavement, making these vital corridors safer and more efficient.
Additional infrastructure investments include a $230,000 signal system at SH-4 and SW 89th Street, in partnership with the City of Mustang, and the current construction of a $5 million I-40 corridor enhancement from MacArthur Avenue to Morgan Road, scheduled for completion in 2030.
All of these improvements represent more than just numbers on a spreadsheet—they reflect a long-term commitment to the people and communities of House District 47.
As we look to the future, Oklahoma must continue to move forward by investing in infrastructure that supports safety, growth, and opportunity. These projects show what’s possible when we prioritize smart, forward-looking development. Mile by mile, road by road, we are building a stronger Oklahoma. Let’s continue moving Oklahoma forward.
Rep. Brian Hill, a Republican, represents House District 47 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. His district includes portions of Mustang and Oklahoma City. He serves as chair of the House Commerce & Economic Development Oversight Committee.
